Are you a cruiser and want to live for free, enjoy a beautiful part of Canada, and make some money in the non-cruising season? This might be for you.

We are cruisers too.

We spent this past winter cruising in the Bahamas (2018/2019). Through that adventure we realized we might have an opportunity for someone (or two) in the cruising community.  Who are we?

We own a seasonal resort in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Think endless beaches, red soil, trails, green fields, Anne of Green Gables, potatoes, mussels, oysters, and lobsters and you pretty much have it. It’s stupidly gorgeous for 5 to 6 months a year. The other months are…cold.

Cape Tryon, PEI.

Cape Tryon, PEI.

We have work AND accommodation to offer.

The Job:

We need an afternoon/evening resort assistant and someone to be on call throughout the night.

Here are the details:

  • Season starts mid to late May and goes until early to mid October (perfect for a cruiser right?)

  • Shifts are 2:30pm - 10:30pm (this changes slightly throughout the season to compensate for daylight). Six days a week rain or shine.

  • Responsibilities are varied and include: Painting, helping guests with TVs, pool and hut tub stuff (we can teach you), gardening, delivering freshly baked cookies (for real), carrying luggage, etc. Basically you are a jack of all trades resort assistant. You report directly to our GM but work with our front of house, maintenance, and housekeeping teams. No two days look the same.

On Call:

Six nights a week you are on call. What does this mean? If a guest has a problem/issue that they deem an emergency when our front desk is closed (10:30pm to 7am) your phone rings.  On average there is less than one call per week.  Mostly it’s people locked out of their rooms, confused late check ins, and the occasional exciting calls like baby racoons climbing on screen doors.

What happens if there is a real LEGIT emergency. Fear not. We, the owners, live on site as well and can take over any major issues if they arise.

Can you sleep? Absolutely. You’ll be in your own apartment sleeping in your own bed.

What we offer:

  • Money! For the regular scheduled shift work (6 days per week) we pay $15/hour CAD. No experience is necessary.

  • For the on call portion we offer a fully furnished bachelor/studio apartment (in a basement but it has windows!) . This includes phones, internet, cable, access to laundry, etc.

In addition will offer anyone from the cruising community:

  • $500 travel bonus ($1,000 if you are two people) to get to PEI.

  • If two people come then you will be first in line for a second job on the resort. We employ 25+ people and we often have openings come up during the season. The likelihood of this happening is very high. We can also hook you up with other employers in the area.

  • Occasional (i.e. weekly) access to a vehicle for groceries, city runs, etc if you don’t have your own wheels.

  • Access to bikes to explore PEI’s north shore.

  • Access and use of a FULL workshop during any downtime. There really isn’t a tool we don’t have. Bring your boat projects with you and take advantage of a 3 bay garage/tools/etc.

Ideally we’d love to find a couple who are sailing in the winter seasons and want to live without cost and make some $ for their cruising kitty.

If it goes well this can be a yearly endeavour.
